Working together to strengthen sustainability across tourism and hospitality

We work with organisations across the tourism, hospitality, meetings and destination sectors to share expertise, strengthen sustainability standards and help businesses and destinations turn ambition into practical action.

Our partnerships bring together specialist knowledge, industry experience and a shared commitment to creating a more sustainable visitor economy.

Sustainability partners meeting

Booking.com

Making certification visible when guests book

Travellers need clear, credible information when they choose where to stay. Our partnership with Booking.com helps Green Tourism Certified accommodation providers present their sustainability credentials at that point of decision.

Green Tourism is recognised on Travalyst’s list of sustainability certification schemes. Certified accommodation providers can therefore meet the requirements for sustainability filters used by online travel agencies such as Booking.com, making it easier for potential guests to identify independently certified places to stay.

The Meetings Industry Association

Practical sustainability for meetings and events

The Meetings Industry Association (mia) brings detailed sector knowledge to our work in meetings and events. Together, we give mia members access to Green Tourism guidance, resources and learning that help them identify useful actions, build knowledge and demonstrate progress.

mia members also receive 10% off the annual Green Tourism membership fee, making our framework and support more accessible to businesses across the sector.

UKinbound

Supporting responsible inbound tourism

UKinbound represents more than 400 businesses across the UK’s inbound travel trade. As members and a long-standing partner, we support its work on responsible tourism and share practical sustainability expertise with the businesses it represents.

Green Tourism also regularly supports UKinbound’s Annual Convention as Sustainability Partner, bringing guidance and sector experience to one of the industry’s key gatherings.

Global Destination Sustainability Movement

Helping destinations turn strategy into measurable progress

Destinations need more than a sustainability strategy. They need a way to involve local businesses, measure progress and demonstrate what is changing. As a strategic partner of the Global Destination Sustainability Movement (GDS-Movement), we help destinations use credible third-party certification to strengthen sustainability across their tourism supply chain.

An 18-month programme in Belfast put that approach into practice. Working with GDS-Movement, Belfast City Council, Visit Belfast and other partners, we contributed to a programme that helped Belfast reach eighth place in the Global Destination Sustainability Index and become one of only two UK cities in the top ten.

In 2023, we worked with GDS-Movement and Visit Belfast on a whitepaper capturing the programme’s experience and lessons, giving other destinations practical insight they can apply to their own plans.

Scottish Excellence Awards

Recognising businesses that turn commitment into action

The Scottish Excellence Awards recognise practical action, innovation and responsible business across Scotland. Green Tourism sponsors the Sustainable Business Award, celebrating organisations that can demonstrate progress across hospitality, foodservice and tourism.

Our founder, Andrea Nicholas, also chairs the awards’ advisory board.

AA Hotel and Hospitality Services

More than a century of hospitality assessment

AA Hotel and Hospitality Services has assessed and rated UK accommodation for more than a century. It introduced the AA star rating scheme in 1912 and has awarded restaurant Rosettes since 1956.

Its rated accommodation, restaurants and visitor attractions are featured on RatedTrips.com, giving travellers one place to find quality-assessed places to stay, eat and visit.
